Description
Palm jaggery powder, a natural sweetener derived from the sap of palm trees, is also known as palm sugar. It has a unique caramel-like flavor and a brown hue. The production process involves extracting sap from the flowers of the palm tree, boiling it until it thickens into a sweet, sticky syrup, and then allowing it to cool and solidify. Once solidified, the jaggery is ground into a fine powder.
Jaggery is not a recent ‘super food’, it has been used in India since Vedic times. In the oldest Ayurvedic health treaty called the Charaka Samhita, jaggery is said to ‘produce plenty of marrow, blood and muscle. It has existed for centuries and forms the core of all traditional Indian sweets. You can use it to bake, to prepare delicious desserts like chikki and halwa, or as a natural sweetener in your tea or coffee for a unique kick.
